Huge-punching Adam Machaj is looking to outdo heavyweight rivals, Anthony Joshua and Hughie Fury, by KO’ing his next opponent in a round.
Machaj faces Croat Hrvoje Kisicek at the Blackpool Winter Gardens on Saturday March 29 and, with the show streamed live and free on VIPBOXING.TV, the 6ft 8in man-mountain is promising fans fireworks.
“I’ve got a come forward style and I look to knock people out,” stated unbeaten Machaj. “I go in there to knock out and hurt people badly. That’s heavyweight boxing, and if you haven’t got a knockout punch then you might as well forget about it.
“I’m naturally heavy-handed; I feel like I’ve got lump hammers in each hand, especially my right. But no one’s seen my full spectrum, and I think I can knock someone out with a jab if I catch them right. I’ve just got natural power.
“He [Kisicek] went six rounds with Fury and two rounds with Joshua, and I’ve told my manager I want to try and do him in one round. I’m not putting any pressure on myself but if I land my punches then it will happen. I’ve been told he’s a tough guy, but I’m not in there to play tiddlywinks or mess around. I’m going to try to hurt him badly, straight off.”
With just four amateur fights behind him, and three pro KO wins on his ledger, Adam knows it’s early days and he is still learning the fight game. The confident 26-year-old is convinced though that, with the right guidance, it won’t be long before he’s knocking on the door for titles and facing the top names
“I’m not targeting anyone, but I wouldn’t mind having a bit of that Hughie Fury,” explained the 17st fighter from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. “I’d have a decent side bet with him, although I don’t know how the Board of Control would feel about that! My trainer had me on and said my opponent was Richard Towers for this fight, and I was over the moon so that shows you how confident I am.
“I’m doing everything in levels, but I think I can get to the top. I’ve got the power, speed, and chin to get there, but you need the wind behind your back, and a bit of luck; it’s not just one thing. I’m very driven though, and I definitely want the British. Beyond that, who knows?”
Promoter Steve Wood stated: “At VIP Promotions we’ve had champions at all weights over the years, but haven’t managed it at heavyweight yet. With Adam I think that’s about to change. He has dynamite in his fists and if he catches anybody he will KO them. He is certainly going to be in very exciting fights and he is worth the ticket price alone. If fans can’t get along to the Blackpool show then I urge them to tune in on VIPBOXING.TV, they won’t be disappointed.”
